Picking a Lube
When it comes to lubrication one can become overwhelmed with choices. Water based? Silicone? How about baby oil? Does it really make a difference? The answer is yes! Here's a guide on which to choose:
Start with the ingredients- lubricants come in three different varieties: oil based, water based, and silicone based.
If you plan on using a condom, skip the oil based as it causes latex to breakdown. This includes baby oil and other oil substances sometimes used as lubricants. Silicone lube is a great alternative. It has the long lasting slippery feel, is latex safe, and is not absorbed by the body but rather flushed out naturally. Silicones generally cost a little more but much less is needed to provide a friction free experience. Silicones also can not be used with silicone or silicone treated toys as they will "melt" the material. When two silicone materials are left touching one another they begin to break down, for this reason you should also never leave two silicone toys touching each other. To be safe wrap your toys in plastic bags and use water based lubricants.

Looking to Go Down?- Water based lubricants come in a variety of consistencies, flavors, heating and cooling. If you are going to use them for intercourse make sure they are sugar free. The sugar in lubricants can react badly with the naturally occurring yeast in the vagina and lead to a yeast infection. If you are prone to yeast infections or to urinary tract infections try one of the glycerin and paraben free water based lubes or a silicone. Flavors vary from brand to brand. Ones that we have found enjoyable are WET ( more natural fruit flavors), Swiss Navy ( Kool-Aid type flavoring), and Sex Tarts ( Think Jolly Ranchers).

Heat things Up- It has been our experience that warming lubricant is one of those "hit or miss" items. Women either love it or hate it. Heating lubricants generally use glycerin as the heating agent and the sensation gets stronger with friction. This can lead to things becoming too heated or for those women who aren't very sensitive to glycerin, they may not feel anything at all. Our recommendation with it and with all lubes is to start small, find one you like, then buy it in bulk. You don't want to get stuck with five gigantic bottles of lubricants you hate but buying in large quantities is always more economical.
